No wonder this world is in so much trouble!

That is understandable.
What is NOT understandable (to me, at least) is the great number of people who DO buy into Scientology!

There must be something positive and redeeming about the religion that attracts so many.
Has your obsession with Scientology shed any light on what it might be?

I read about it a bit (all I could stomach). They seem to be big on self-help and humanitarianism issues. Maybe that's their big attraction?

Scientology draws well-meaning people in under the guise of "Dianetics." These unsuspecting people then fall under a thrall by the employment of mind control. Most cults use mind control to bring members into submission.
In the book "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health," first published in 1950, hack science-fiction author, L. Ron Hubbard wrote that he had isolated the "dynamic principle of existence," whch he states as "Survive," and presents his description of the human mind. He identifies the source of "human aberration" as the "reactive mind," a normally hidden area of the mind, and memory traces or "engrams" stored in it. Dianetics describes counseling (or "auditing") techniques which Hubbard claimed would get rid of engrams and bring major therapeutic benefits. (See the main article on Dianetics for a fuller description of its conceptual basis).

Self-help and humanitarian issues, there is probably a lot of fellowship, social gatherings, and everything else a modern religion has.
These people are probably laughing all the way to the bank. The joke is probably on those that don't know the long awaited, "secret", and those that aren't Scientologists.
The religion obviously is a benefit or brings comfort to its members in some way.
Money, power, political influence or something as simple as a tax shelter for the affluent.
I don’t see any of this more unbelievable then Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart or other Christian televangelists, who had their own "Dianetics" goin’ on.
And Tom Cruise is only slightly less sane then most bible thumpers and more sane then some.
Scientology isn't against the law and it doesn't seem to be that Scientologists are filling up prisons or being a burden on society.
Scientologists in Ireland haven't been bombing Buddhists or killing off indigenous peoples in the name of G-D.
Sure didn’t hear ole’ Tom say we’re all going to hell if we weren’t Scientologists.
Scientology is just another strange religion.
