Point in fact: Wealthy people from all over the world come to the United States for medical care. These are people who could afford to go anywhere in the world, and they choose to come here. I am talking about people who have millions and even billions of dollars to spend on health care. They ALL come here.
The health care in foreign countries is abyssmal.
No health-care system is perfect.

Subject: Canada's Health care system from a Canadians point of view.
Hey Guys; I seen on the news up here in Canada that the US is
considering healthcare Something similar to what we have in
Canada. I also heard that Michael Moore was raving about the health
care up
here in Canada in his latest movie. As your friend and someone who
lives
with the Canada health care plan I thought I would give you some
facts about
this great medical plan that we have in Canada.
First of all:
1) The health care plan in Canada is not free. We pay a premium
every month
of $96. for Shirley and I to be covered. Sounds great eh. What they
don't
tell you is how much we pay in taxes to keep the health care system
afloat.
I am personally in the 55% tax bracket. Yes 55% of my earnings go to
taxes.
A large portion of that and I am not sure of the exact amount goes
directly
to health care our #1 expense.
2) I would not classify what we have as health care plan, it is more
like a
health diagnosis system. You can get into to see a doctor quick
enough so
he can tell you "yes indeed you are sick or you need an operation"
but now
the challenge becomes getting treated or operated on. We have
waiting lists
out the ying yang some as much as 2 years down the road.
3) Rather than fix what is wrong with you the usual tactic in Canada
is to
prescribe drugs. Have a pain here is a drug to take- not what is
causing
the pain and why. No time for checking you out because it is more
important
to move as many patients thru as possible each hour for Government
re-imbursement
4) Many Canadians do not have a family Doctor.
5) Don't require emergency treatment as you may wait for hours in the
emergency room waiting for treatment.
6) Shirley's dad cut his hand on a power saw a few weeks back and it
required that his hand be put in a splint - to our surprise we had to
pay
$125. for a splint because it is not covered under health care plus
we have
to pay $60. for each visit for him to check it out each week.
7) Shirley's cousin was diagnosed with a heart blockage. Put on a
waiting
list . Died before he could get treatment.
8) Government allots so many operations per year. When that is done
no more
operations, unless you go to your local newspaper and plead your case
and
embarrass the government then money suddenly appears.
9)The Government takes great pride in telling us how much more they
are
increasing the funding for health care but waiting lists never get
shorte r.
Government just keeps throwing money at the problem but it never goes
away.
But they are good at finding new ways to tax us, but they don't call
it a
tax anymore it is now a user fee.
10) My mother needs an operation for a blockage in her leg but
because she
is a smoker they will not do it. Despite her and my father paying
into the
health care system all these years. My Mom is 80 years of age. Now
there
is talk that maybe we should not treat fat and obese people either
because
they are a drain on the health care system. Let me see now, what we
want in
Canada is a health care system for healthy people only. That should
reduce
our health care costs.
11) Forget getting a second opinion, what you see is what you get.
12) I can spend what money I have left after taxes on booze,
cigarettes,
junk food and anything else that could kill me but I am not allowed
by law
to spend my money on get ting an operation I need because that would
be
jumping the queue. I must wait my turn except if I am a hockey
player or
athlete then I can get looked at right away. Go figger. Where else
in the
world can you spend money to kill yourself but not allowed to spend
money to
get healthy.
13) Oh did I mention that immigrants are covered automatically at tax
payer
expense having never contributed a dollar to the system and pay no
premiums.
14) Oh yeh we now give free needles to drug users to try and keep
them
healthy. Wouldn't want a sickly druggie breaking into your house and
stealing your things. But people with diabetes who pay into the
health care
system have to pay for their needles because it is not covered but
the
health care system.
I send this out not looking for sympathy but as the election looms in
the
states you will be hearing more and more about universal health care
down
there and the advocates will be pointing to Canada. I just want to
make
sure that you hear the truth about health care up here and have some
food
for thought and informed questions to ask when broached with this
subject.
Step wisely and don't make the same mistakes we have.

Mt. Mamma,
We have a lot of the same shit going on here, the difference? I'm paying $400.00 a month for my crappy medical insurance, which I have to fight to get them to pay for each and every trip to the Doctor. Furthermore, I'm paying out another $250.00 a month for Dr. Bills on top of the $400.00 that I pay for insurance. Thats around $650.00 a month that I'm paying for medical expenses. You know me, so come on over and I will show you the proof on paper. Yeah, there plan still sounds better to me.

And...your word on the matter of how much you pay is good as gold to me! You don't have to prove it on paper. I agree that health care in this country is not nearly as good as it could or should be...my own 2 daughters suffer from inadequate insurance coverage and therefore do with out on prescriptions they need or dental work etc. My oldest daughter has congestive heart failure. She needs a surgery done to aid in weight loss to improve her chance for survival. Her doctor has already told her that her insurance probably won't cover it at all, which means, she won't be able to have the surgery. She's 34 years old John. You already know the situation with my oldest son. My other 2 sons have no insurance at all and neither does my husband...they can't afford it. So I am painfully aware of our crappy health care/insurance system.
It's absolutely ridiculous especially when you consider the amount of money that gets dumped into it from the citizens. I was just pointing out that it isn't great most anywhere else either. Unless of course you would rather live in a country that is in the "Top Ten". Then you would have a choice of the following countries:
1 France
2 Italy
3 San Marino
4 Andorra
5 Malta
6 Singapore
7 Spain
8 Oman
9 Austria
10 Japan
According to The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems, Canada places at 30 while the USA comes in at 37. Petty poor showing for one of the worlds wealthiest nations.

Thanks for spelling it out for me so articulately! I concur...and was taking the shortcut!
UPDATE: My wife brought me a case of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale last evening. (One of her perks as administrative assistant to the owner of SN is free beer!) I was toasty warm, clothed in tank top and shorts, and did not feel like putting on footwear and journeying out to her car for the beer. Also, I had purchased a 1.75-liter jug of Smirnoff and a jug of Ocean Spray cranberry juice on my way home from the office, so I was not concerned about dehydration.
This morning, I arose at 5:45 AM and performed a visitation upon the bathroom. I did not feel like returning to bed, so I hopped into some shorts, turned up the heat, and scurried out to my wife's Yaris for the Pale Ale. There are few things in this world that compare to that first long swill of frosty Pale Ale of a Saturday morning. The brew was nicely chilled from its repose in the cargo area of the Yaris.
I settled into my recliner, took another gulp of Pale Ale, turned on the video equipment, and pulled my laptop to me. While I browsed through the email that had downloaded during the night, I surfed the DirecTV guide and happened upon "The Neverending Story." I had missed the beginning, but I watched the balance of the movie.
While watching the movie, I began to read today's news stories from various sources. I repaired to the refrigerator for another frosty Pale Ale. I continued reading news items.
Suddenly, an image of Michael Moore appeared upon the display of my HP 9500t notebook! Yikes! I had a Pale Ale in one hand and a Microsoft Bluetooth wireless mouse in the other. In my haste to remove the image of Michael Moore from the screen, I accidentally clicked in error and ENLARGED his image! Yikes and yikes again!
The horror was great. I did managed to move on to another news article--clearing the screen of the demonic image of Michael Moore--but I have been itching a bit ever since! It is fortunate that I was able to remove Michael Moore's image from my screen sufficiently quickly to avoid an uncontrollable infestation of cooties. As it was, a light application of CootieOff took care of the problem, and now all is well.
Whew. That was a close call!

You have to educate yourself and understand the root causes of the problem before you take the path of socialism.
It's better to work to abolish those root causes then surrender to socialism.
It's important to understand if you want socialized medicine there is a lot of places you can move to to get it.
Please resist the temptation to move further away from personal responsibility and individualism that this country was based on. I begyou for my sake and the millions like me who prefer being American over being a European. So, as an American, you don't believe in his freedom of speech?
Yes I do, nobody is stopping him.
In fact he has so much freedom, he can afford to do it in a irresponsible manner.
I abhor deception, half-truths, or slimeyness from any multi-media source.
Propaganda is something that always needs honest inspection from the people.
Michael Moore knows who he is, and doesn't try very hard to hide it.
It doesn't bother him that millions of honest free thinking people think he's as communist as they come.
It's my duty to exercise my free speech and encourage others to exercise their free speech against extreme, not mild, extreme socialistic views as Michael Moore.
Again, there are plenty of places Michael Moore can go to be exactly who he wants to be.
He is my enemy in that his views if allowed to happen forces me to surrender freedom and conservative principals.
Keep in mind America is a place that is loosing freedoms and core values.
There isn't another place that I can go to be an American that would give me back freedoms already lost.
So how far have you gone to form an opinion how we could get cheaper and better health care, without socializing it?

What "sucks" John is; I don't know enough and you are blaming the wrong people and looking to socialism for the cure.
I know that is cost more then it should because of frivilous lawsuits.
I know it cost more then it should because many refuse to pay one red cent for it, even when they can pay a measely dollar.
I know it costs more then it should because many who don't pay for it abuse the system.
I know it costs more then it should because of decades old social programs have corrupted a free market in the health care system.
I know it costs more then what it should because the pharmaseudical companys and the insurance companys make huge political contributions to those that regulate and control the health care system.
What you need to understand is that all the above will continue to happen under Michael Moores plan, plus more abuse, and less quality.
John, this country isn't moving in the direction of being better. Instead it's moving in the opposite direction.
Over the years it's increasing government involvement that has made every thing it touches worse.
Why ask for more poison?
David Louis Harter
12-17-2007, 07:24 PM
I know that is cost more then it should because of frivilous lawsuits.
Frivolous lawsuits have made multi-millionaires of John Edwards and his ilk. It is well-past time to put an end to frivolous lawsuits and relegate the ambulance-chasing attorneys to their rightful positions as societal bottom-feeders.
What you need to understand is that all the above will continue to happen under Michael Moore's plan, plus more abuse, and less quality.
This is an absolute. Michael Moore is a territorial parasite. He attaches his personal agenda to whatever "issue" he aspires to "expose." The transparency of his mania is (fortunately) obvious and symptomatic of a very diseased mind--a mind diseased not from physical causes but from psychological entropy.
Over the years it's increasing government involvement that has made every thing it touches worse.
It is the very basis of the liberal agenda that government should be ever-expanding, and the dependence of the citizenry upon the government should eventually reach the point where the welfare state becomes the majority class.
This is socialism, certainly, and it portends doom. It is a conceptualization that has failed miserably in every country that has ever aspired to its adoption.

Flawless healthcare is a joke, it is like saying military intellegence. But I do agree that there is a need for more Americans to participate in health plans. I think Michael Moore was trying to point out that if we did have health Corporations not trying to screw us around, more Americans would participate, allowing a smaller percentage of Americans without health insurance. Healthcare corporations can make millions on more involvement rather than millions on raping those who wish to participate.
Do I believe that other countries such as Canada and France are so much more superior in this area, no. Every country has its way of functioning. Through taxes, practices and so on. But I do agree with John in saying that Americans do need to wake up. It will only get worse. With corporate heads (not being bribed) pleading under oath that they denied and neglected patience to save the company money, and the deny rates being as high as they are I can only agree that this is a serious issue that needs the country's full attention. Not because Michael Moore is saying it. But because it has been an issue for more than 30 years!
What really gets me buggin is the fact that terrorists and illegal immigrants get faster and better care than someone who has paid into insurance for 20+ years. Lets do some math, A hard working man who has pays an average of $400.00 per month into insurance for 20 years. Other than yearly exams he never goes to the ER. This is almost 100K he has sunk into insurance in 20 years. He is hurt (on job or outside of job), company denies him a 5K surgery. In 20 years this company has had to fork out minimal support for this man.... the one time it is needed they screw him. This is the healtcare system this country is running on. And it is legal! Lets see.... the illegal immigrant with no plans of citizenship that was sitting in the waiting room with him has been treated with no questions. Thank you come again. Hello people....wake up. I am not a socialist. I am a realist. What is real to me is if the time comes when I need a surgery and I am refused they can only pray I dont get even!
Talk about POSTAL!!!!

Ummmm, wake up and join the Michael Moore bandwagon?
Or wake up and educate yourself on the underlying causes of why we have health care problems?
Truth is most people who claim they can't afford health insurance have cable TV, cell phones, gas for the boat, a 12 pack in the fridge, a fat sack of green bud, ipods, and modular wheels on the Honda.

The biggest problem with socialists like Michael Moore is they have ulterior motives.
For socialism to get a foothold, it takes scare tactics and ignorant masses.
Truth is there are very, very cost effective plans that are available to the public. And best of all they preserve personal responsibility and individual integrity.
I encourage all to check out Medical Savings Accounts (MSA's).
They incorporate high deductible, lower cost catastophic insurance, and a 401 type savings account that is yours to keep and roll over year after year.
You can use that money on more medical issues (even over the counter drugs)then any insurance pays.
The insurance is tax deductable, the MSA is a tax free interest bearing savings account. The great part of it is if you don't use it it rolls over year after year gaining interest and you can have it all back (plus interest)without penalty when you go on Social Security.
I'm no Bush fan, but he's been trying to greatly expand on MSA's recently as a responsible choice over the socialist's health care plan.

What blows me away is how those who are not rich can succumb to the lies told to them by the Republican Party. Said party will tell you that we cannot afford universal healthcare, but will then spend billions upon billions upon billions upon billons on oil... err... war.
Michael Moore is not evil any more than the party in office is evil.
We so cheaply sell out to the lies told us by the Republican party. This, typed by a registered Republican (me) who is intelligent enough to see we've been duped.
Carry on.
We can't afford universal healthcare or the war.
I don't like neo-cons, but I dis-like socialists more.
I'll be voting a Ron Paul ticket this coming year. A Constitutionalist I can support.

Michael Moore I bet would do just as good a job as president as any of these Idiots. The point here is, The U S A is the richest country in the world, yet we have people dieing every day because they cannot afford health care and even people that can afford it have to wait and see if the insurance will approve. Today, December 21 2007, there was a story on CNN about a teenage girl that needed a liver transplant, but because their insurance declined the procedure, she died. I do not know what you people would do about this if it happened to you, but I would probably go into their big offices and shoot these greedy bastards. My little girl means the world to me and her life should not depend on these bastards’ decisions. These things happen every day people, wake up!!!!!!!!!!! I never realized that this was going on, I always thought that no matter what it was, Doctors had to take care of us regardless if we had the money to pay or not. However, after watching this movie, I realized it was happening all the time. On occasion I would hear something on the news but did not pay much attention to it, but know I realize that it has always happened this way, the poor die and the rich live. I now remember a movie with Denzel Washington, about his son needing some kind of medical procedure, but because Denzel did not have the money the doctors were not going to take care of him, so Denzel took matters into his own hands and held the hospital hostage and so on and so on, but the truth to the matter is that it has always been this way in the States. Michael Moore is not a traitor, as some of you are saying; Michael Moore is a great citizen of this country who cares about everyone, including you and me. He is just trying to inform us of the bad and good that is here in these great UNITED STATES. Do yourself a favor and watch his film and you will see the true traitors of this country. For instance, there is a part in his film, in which a senator pushes and lobbies for a bill in favor of the Pharmaceutical companies to be passed in which it will help the elderly, but as soon as it passes he resigns as senator to go work as a CEO of one of these COMPANIES, which will pay him 2,000,000 dollars a year,,,,,,, hello,,,,who is the traitor now? He did not push this bill for you or I,, or our elderly parents, he did it for himself,,, kaching. You will probably remember about this the next time you go to the doctor and you receive a bill, and remember, this is the second bill, the first one you already paid when you paid for your insurance prem. Remeber,,,, ignorance is the easy way out, ignorance and criticism are like peas and carrots. You can’t have too much if you have not had enough. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. SHABBY SHABBY

With the possible exception of Hillary Clinton, it is ridiculous and dangerous to propose such a notion.
The U S A is the richest country in the world,
Upon what do you base that concept?
there was a story on CNN
Ah, that explains a great deal. If you choose CNN for your "news" source, you will see only their of the news--the ultra-liberal, extremely biased and skewed version. CNN should be renamed SNN--for Socialist News Network.
CNN does not report the news. CNN interprets the news. Their "news" stories are better defined as op ed pieces than journalism.
However, after watching this movie, I realized it was happening all the time.
Making a Hollywood movie the basis for your political position is dangerous and irrational.
There is never a lack of anti-establishment propaganda spewing from Hollywood, since Hollywood has a long tradition, as it were, for welcoming with open arms communists, socialists, and their ilk.
One must use discernment and caution when viewing motion pictures--particularly those that are personal agendas wrapped in the guise of "documentaries."
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. SHABBY SHABBY
Ah. With that, I agree! Merry Christmas!

Almost always the worst possible policy will be made from emotion.
That girl who died of liver problems would have died in any other country and probably a lot faster in any other.
And lets not let our emotions forget the fact that it is still very much a fact that people die.
Now please consider this whole arguement put another way.
I am an American. With that I prefer to do things on my own without any government involvement. I prefer to let the chips fall where they may on my own accomplishments. This is the essence of individual freedom.
Now I respect your point of views and encourage you to follow your own beliefs. And in that there are plenty of options for you to go where you can have a government that will accomodate your medical needs.
At this point and time however this is the only place on Earth that still has values that encourage individual freedom.
So now with that said, what about me?, and my rights?, and the rights of others that feel like I do?
People who feel like you do have already taken so much from those that believe like I do.
Now this ties in to a moral issue.
Health care, like all goods and services, is produced by human labor. It does not grow on trees or fall from the sky. To claim that some individuals have a right to such goods and services, at no (or reduced) cost to themselves, is thus a claim that they have a right to someone else’s unpaid, involuntary labor — it is a claim to have a right to either the labor of those who directly produce the health care (doctors, nurses, anesthetists, etc.) or a right to the labor of those who must work to earn enough money to pay the taxes that will pay those who produce the health care.
Mankind made a great leap forward when it recognized slavery as an evil. But the slavery we eliminated in America in the 19th century was the enslavement of the many by the few. Socialists are determined to complete the implementation of a new slavery: the enslavement of the few by the many.
Both are thoroughly rotten and evil notions. Nothing on earth justifies the claim that some people have the right to exist at the expense of others, that some are entitled to receive benefits while others are sentenced to eternal labor to provide those benefits. It’s evil no matter how many people are in each group.
Ultimately, those of you who want universal healthcare just may get it.
But understand when that time comes you've just made a slave out of people like me.

If CNN is slanted to one side, Fox can easily be said to slant to the other.
Fox reports the news. Only the analysts (Hannity, Colmes, O'Reilly, etc.) interject personal opinions and/or positions, and these people clearly state their positions. There is no hidden agenda. The reporting done by Fox is without bias.
CNN interprets the news--very selectively. The majority of their programming is directed to promote a left-wing, liberal, socialist position. Very little of the programming on CNN is actual news reporting. CBS and ABC are nearly as bad as CNN, in this regard, and NBC is worse.
Interestingly, CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC news divisions are all failing miserably in ratings, and Fox News has a greater audience than the others combined.
